Key Issues

Older Workers Ready to Hire was developed to highlight the solution to the unparalleled job vacancies that are impeding economic growth in every sector as well as government services.  The problem is tied to two demographic trends – smaller families and the retirement of millions of Baby Boomers.

It started a decade ago but was exacerbated by the COVID crisis when millions of workers lost their jobs.  That was followed by the Great Resignation.  The experience working remotely convinced workers they did not want to return to the old grind.

Now hundreds of thousands of older workers forced to retire earlier than they planned want to ‘unretire’.  Their experience gives them the skills and abilities to hit the ground running. But their job hunting is frustrated by ageist bias and discrimination.  The law allows employers to ignore their applications.  This is a problem in every developed country.

This book discusses what’s unfolded, the barriers to returning to work, and the changes employers should consider to create a work environment where older workers are valued and respected.  It also discusses the role government should provide to address the problem.  Its costing the country billions.
